Former President Donald Trump is facing a speed bump on March 25th that most voters have not paid much attention to. To be more graphic, that speed bump could be Mt. Everest in his quest to win this November.
Not much has been in the news lately regarding Trump’s trial in Manhattan, but when looking at what he (Trump) is charged with, the tea leaves appear very ominous for President Trump. Currently, Trump is accused of some thirty-four felonies regarding the porn star Stormy Daniels, ex-fixer Attorney Michael Cohen, and a bevy of shell corporations where Trump apparently ran money through to get Stormy and Cohen paid off.
According to famed Harvard Legal Scholar and Guru Alan Dershowitz, Trump will likely be found guilty initially in a New York City courtroom. Dershowitz does say that Trump will win on appeal. However, that appeal will not be heard for what could be a year or more.
And herein lies the problem for the Trump campaign and the Republican Party. THESE ARE FELONIES!
So far, the cases brought against the former President have been civil in nature. Even the hideous charges by the corrupted New York Attorney General and the unbelievable fine set by the corrupted Judge in New York State were civil cases. Trump will most likely walk away with a win from this case, too, but again, it has to go to an Appellate Court, which won’t be heard for at least a year. In the meantime, Trump has to post either a bond or hard cash to schedule an appeal. Currently, he is scrambling to come up with nearly $400,000,000.00, which is not easy, even for Donald Trump.
In all likelihood, Donald Trump is going to show up in Milwaukee at the Republican National Convention this July with multiple felonies hanging over his head.
While many “Trump-Nation” faithful don’t care in the least about this trial in Manhattan, the rest of the nation does care. Multiple polls have been conducted over the past year, and nearly all have had the same results. If Donald Trump is convicted of a “FELONY,” now Trump loses some 53% of his voter base.
This leaves the Republican Party in a quandary.
- Can the GOP legitimately put up a candidate who has felony convictions?
- If the answer is no, where do Trump’s delegates go?
- Would they nominate Nikki Haley since she has the second most delegates as she stayed in the race the longest?
While Alvin Bragg has unquestionably overstepped his prosecutorial boundaries by arbitrarily changing Trump’s charges from misdemeanors to felonies, this will all have to be decided at the Former President’s appeal. Trump is in a highly toxic courtroom, facing some very serious indictments. The Judge could legally send him to jail or prison if found guilty. The likelihood of him sending Trump to prison is remote, but it could still happen. The Judge will be under extreme pressure to “dish out” equal treatment to show unbiased and equality under the law. More likely, Trump will receive a stiff fine, and there is the possibility of some time at Mar-A-Lago with restrictions.
~ A genuine possibility in Milwaukee~
Assuming that Trump walks out of Manhattan unscathed, then all goes normal at the convention. We hear three days of speeches about how it is only Trump who can save us from the collapse of our nation and how Joe Biden is Satan incarnate. But, let’s assume the worst for the Former President, and he is found guilty of multiple felonies. Now what?
Former candidate Ambassador Nikki Haley will enter the convention with a real argument that she should be the nominee. She led Biden in the most recent polling and had the second most delegates, which she won in Vermont and Washington, D. C., plus a few more in a couple of other states. The question now becomes, “What does the GOP top brass do?” Do they take the chance that Trump can win being a convicted felon (even though he likely wins on appeal)? Knowing that 53% of his base will abandon him if this happens.
Another possibility is that Trump gives a passionate speech about loving America so much that he is willing to step aside, release his delegates, and request that they pledge themselves to Vivek Ramaswamy or possibly Haley (although doubtful).
~In the End~
Alvin Bragg has the witnesses, has the evidence, and has a strong case, according to all experts, to garner a conviction against Donald Trump for some shell game in New York City regarding these monetary transfers to Stormy Daniels. Most Americans know full well that this case is stretch at best and is nothing that most high-profile people have done through the decades to silence illicit affairs. But in the end, after all, he ran for President and had to shut this hooker down, and he did, or at least tried to.
Knowing all the above, what the Republican Party does after this verdict is anyone’s guess. What President Trump does is anyone’s guess. Will he continue? Will Bragg request that the court dishes out the most punitive penalties? Can Trump win? These are all questions that America is pondering.
One thing can be said for certain: this is the most interesting presidential campaign in American history.
