If the Republican Party could or would learn anything from past elections, it would be, ‘take notes from how the Democrats win elections!‘
Now the $64 question becomes, ‘So how do the Democrats manage to shellack the GOP in so many elections when they seemingly are campaigning on unwinnable subjects?’ Democrats rarely campaign on lowering taxes; instead, they campaign on ‘the rich don’t pay their fair share.’ Democrats campaign on ‘big oil is killing our planet, instead of big oil provides affordable energy and employs hundreds of thousands of people with high-paying jobs.’ Do you see a trend yet?
Democrats will spend countless dollars on “getting rid of guns to save the children.” All the while, most people know the guns do not get up off the couch and go out and shoot people. And make no mistake, this tactic works! But likely, the most substantial campaign-winning strategy the Democrats have over the Republicans is ‘community involvement.’ In other words, the Democrats flat-out work harder than the Republicans.
Democrats will often knock on more doors, have more “touches” (meaning talk to more people), have more events, more “potlucks, more community outreach, more signs in yards, and all the rest that goes with winning close elections. Republicans often lose elections by campaigning on practicality rather than emotion. Democrats move people to the polls by campaigning on emotion rather than sound reasoning. “We must save the children, we must save the environment or else we all die, and jealousy, ” I am jealous of Bill Gates and Elon Musk for being so rich. They should have to pay more taxes so the government will give me my fair share.”
Lastly, Democrats win elections by supporting their nominee. It doesn’t matter how far to the left or right that nominee is. If the nominee has a “D” behind their name, ALL DEMOCRATS VOTE FOR THAT NOMINEE, PERIOD! And herein lies the problem for the Republicans. To prove that point, take a look at Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (AOC). She was a bartender from the Bronx in New York City. She had zero political acumen (still doesn’t), zero cash, zero backing, and zero name recognition. She began her campaigning for Congress by talking to people, door-knocking, and creating passion about the status quo in Washington. She ended up defeating a long-serving Democrat who relied on political talking points and who did not work very hard. She instinctively knew how to tap into the Democrat passion.
Why the Republicans Are Likely to Lose
The GOP field of candidates this go-round is about to meet their Waterloo or Little Big Horn, as it were. Why? Where the Democrats might disagree with their candidates initially, in the end, they support the nominee. The Republicans, on the other hand, will boycott the election if the nominee doesn’t meet the purity test that the voter has set forth for “who they will vote for.”
A classic example of this was the infamous Barack Obama/Mitt Romney election. Millions of registered Republicans refused to vote for Romney because they felt that he was a RINO. They simply would not show up to vote! They boycotted, and we got four years of unbridled socialism because of it. Our nation is still reeling from the Obama policies put into place. All because Republicans were angry with the party for putting up Mitt Romney. To stray off subject for a moment. I guarantee you that Mitt Romney would NOT have supported gays in the military, transvestites reading to your elementary-age children, or boys participating in girls sports. Now, ask yourself, was it worth not voting to prove a point?
The political reality is that 70% of America supports a woman’s right to choose over banning abortion. Yet, we have a segment of our voting bloc who will turn out to vote if the nominee is on the fence or not strong enough on this subject. IE: Nikki Haley is pro-life personally, but she states that the subject is now at the state level for voting on whether that state chooses to be pro-life or pro-choice. Currently, she is criticized and ridiculed because she makes this statement, which is 100% accurate in terms of legality. She is labeled as a RINO, and once again, the Republicans have chosen a hill to die on, which is of little relevance in the election and gives the Democrats ammunition to campaign on. THE REPUBLICANS WILL TAKE AWAY YOUR RIGHT TO CHOOSE AMERICAN WOMEN! And guess what? It works!
And herein lies the death knell for the GOP. We do not coalesce behind our candidate, whoever wins the nomination. Our party is split twelve ways from Sunday over political ideology! He is not strong enough on the Second Amendment, she is not strong enough on the border, he is not hateful enough toward the LGTBQ movement, and she is not Trump-loving enough. And on and on it goes!
The bottom line is this for America’s Republicans. Here is the truth bomb for Monday morning. And keep in mind I was a massive Trump supporter in 2016 and 2020. Donald Trump is politically dead! He will almost 100% be found guilty of multiple felonies. Knowing this, it is time to support a different candidate. Governor Ron DeSantis cannot win any of the upper-tier states in the primary; this will not allow him to win the nomination. The reason is that Northern Republicans are typically more moderate on social issues, and DeSantis has made his political career on attacking Disney and the LGTBQ agendas. While I agree with him in many aspects, the fact is that Northern Republicans are soft on these issues, and they view DeSantis as a radical right-winger.
To win the general election, we need a fiscal conservative who is a bit more moderate on social issues. We will not win the general election with a hard-right candidate who doesn’t come across as “decent” to most people and groups. Keep in mind that Trump seldom discusses the LGTBQ movement other than to say he will keep boys out of girls’ locker rooms and sports. Otherwise, he is silent on this subject.
If the GOP goes to the convention without a clear winner in the primaries, expect a war and a more fractured party. America needs to begin coalescing behind a candidate now. In my opinion, that candidate does need to be Nikki Haley. I am not a huge fan of hers, but she is the only one who can win the day for our side next November. DeSantis can’t do it; Trump will be too wounded with convictions, and the rest of the field is DOA, politically speaking.
